Last month we brought a team of teachers, administrators and board members to the National Model Schools Conference held in Nashville, Tennessee.
The theme for the conference was “BE THE DIFFERENCE.”  I had the privilege of presenting CVCHS’ tremendous success story as one of the “great turnaround stories in education” due to the outrageous academic achievement results, college admissions rates and our being in the 90th percentile in statewide academic performance.  It was a privilege to share with leaders from throughout the country the tremendous instructional program, professional development opportunities for our teachers, and the amazing intervention programs our students have at CVCHS.
But it was also a great learning opportunity for our team to learn from the other model schools from across the nation.  Three of our teachers shared their personal experiences:
“The Model Schools conference was an immersive, experiential enterprise that will have a major, positive impact on my pedagogical practices. More than anything, however, the time spent with our board members, executive director, and administration affirmed to me that our school is run by passionate, progressive people who have a true vision of culture and excellence. I consider myself extremely lucky to be a part of this school and community, and cannot wait to start implementing the myriad ideas that I garnered during the conference.”

“This most recent trip to Model Schools was incredible. I did not expect to learn so much that enhances my practice and improves my approach to teaching.  As a life-long learner, this was the best conference I’ve attended to improve my own math program. I love Clayton Valley Charter High School and I completely support the path we are taking to move our students forward with reinforcement and POSITIVITY. Outcomes-Strategies-Tools- and all that jazz!”

“This conference, like the previous ones, was an excellent opportunity to gather new contacts and resources to improve my teaching. I met and exchanged information with innovators in technology and education that I look forward to working with in the future. I was able to gather an assortment of resources, from actual lesson plans, to handout templates, to new apps to incorporate if I can get technology in the hands of my students.  Another excellent benefit to this conference was getting to know people on the board and others in the community who I would not normally have had many chances to interact with. I would like to thank all of them for their enthusiasm and kindness throughout the trip. Thank you for the opportunities!”

It is my hope that this coming school year, we will “be the difference” in the lives of our students and their families.  CVCHS is a model school creating a vision and culture that is future-focused!  We are a committed group of leaders who believe that we can change the world.  I invite you to join us in our mission to make a difference and leave this world a better place.
