Honoring Our Amazing School Accomplishments and Graduating Seniors

By David Linzey

“The road of life twists and turns and no two directions are ever the same.  Yet our lessons come from the journey, not the destination.”  -- Don Williams Jr.

Can you believe it!  Another amazing year completed as our students once again have proven to be "first class citizens with a world class education"!  The vision of Clayton Valley Charter High School is truly a reality as this year I am so proud of our tremendous accomplishments:

·         99% graduation rate with the most challenging graduation requirements of any high school in California (3 years of math; 3 years of lab science; 230 credits).

·         99% college admissions rate with 42% of graduating seniors attending a four-year university.

·         96% daily school attendance rate which is truly a testament to our great parental support.

·         $1.3 million received by members of our graduating class in scholarships.

·         Recipient for of the State Department of Education’s 2017 Gold Ribbon School Award and one of 15 charter schools in California with this honor.

·         Recipient of the National Model School Award which is one of the most prestigious and challenging awards presented by the International Center for Leadership in Education.

Now you can see just why I am so proud of our great charter school.  Our staff, students and parents are to be praised for providing such a great learning environment.  I want to commend our Governing Board, school administration, tremendous teachers and staff for going above and beyond every day to ensure we offer a dynamic education that leads to college and careers.

Each year, CVCHS seniors are honored for their academic, community service, athletic and leadership achievements.  Collegiate scholarship and award winners are announced at Senior Awards Night.

Together with Principal John McMorris and other department staff, I was proud to participate in our annual recognition ceremony and to showcase our graduating seniors who have invested so much time and effort into their high school careers.  In addition to their individual commitment to academic success, these students represent the best of our school community.

Our highest award recognition a student at CVCHS can achieve is the Altairs for Scholarship, Service, Leadership, and Grand Altair.  The four awards were established by the first graduating class from Clayton Valley in 1960.  The Altair is the name of the brightest star in the Constellation Aguila, the Eagle.  The selection of Altair candidates is made by members of the Senior Class and a final vote is made by a special committee comprised of student leaders and teaching staff.

I’m very proud to honor these individual students who exemplify the very best at CVCHS: Alyssa Liu, Scholarship Altair; Yennifer Molina, Service Altair; Kimberly Svoboda, Leadership Altair; and Michael Cox, Grand Altair.

June marks a very special time of the school year here at CVCHS.  Congratulations again to our Altair award winners, department recognition winners and the entire Class of 2017. Well done!

I truly hope you have a great summer vacation.  For those seniors, I wish each one of you Godspeed as you begin your new adventure and final leg of preparation of a great career.  Remember to enjoy the journey.   We all will miss you greatly as will your parents.  But you will always be a proud and beautiful "Ugly Eagle".  And for our underclassmen, rest up and be safe.  We shall see you next school year!

In Your Service,

David Linzey

Executive Director

School funding comes directly from student's daily attendance.  When they attend school, even for a portion of the day, we receive full funding for that day.  When your student does not attend at all, we receive no funding at all.  Since 2007, California funding for public education (which includes charter schools) has been reduced significantly causing a tremendous strain on schools to offer educational programs.  We need each student here everyday, even if it is only for a part of the day (after doctor's and dentist appointments, etc.).  CVCHS can actually increase our state funding if every parent does their best to get their students to school everyday.  Thanks!

The Gold Ribbon Awards recognize California schools that have made gains in implementing the academic content and performance standards. Congratulations to the entire Clayton Valley team for the hard work that made this award possible!!!
