AVID

AVID Class

AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) is a nationwide college readiness system. Educators hold students accountable while providing them with the academic and social support they need to overcome the challenge. CVCHS offers AVID as a 9th-grade-only elective. The program is meant for students with high academic potential, a willingness to work hard, and the desire to attend college. AVID aims to develop the skills needed by all secondary school students who want to improve their grades and go to college.

AVID Mission

AVID’s mission is to close the opportunity gap by preparing all students for college readiness and success in a global society.

What is the AVID Elective Class?

The AVID Elective Class is a rigorous environment in which "students in the middle” gain the knowledge, skills, and habits to succeed in college! AVID is a daily academic class that focuses on teaching students the academic and organizational skills they will need to be successful in challenging high school and college courses. AVID is designed for students who might not be realizing their full potential in middle school, but who are motivated to be strong students and dream of attending a four-year college. The AVID Elective Class is NOT a homework class or study hall. It is a rigorous environment in which "students in the middle” gain the knowledge, skills, and habits to succeed in college!
