Adult Transition Program 18-22 yr olds (SOAR)
CVCHS is home to the SOAR Program, which stands for Skills and Opportunities for Adult Readiness. The SOAR Program is available to students ages 18–22 who have completed high school through a Certificate of Completion and California Authorized Alternative Diploma and have unique learning needs and abilities.
The program emphasizes the strengths, interests, and individual needs of each student. Students are provided with opportunities to develop functional life and work skills within their school and community. A large part of the program includes opportunities for students to participate in paid employment and volunteer experiences in the community. These experiences allow students to practice job skills, explore different types of work, and build skills related to independence.
SOAR also focuses on functional academics, independent living, social skills, and leisure skills. The program is student-centered and allows students to explore their strengths and interests while continuing to work on areas that may be challenging for them.
Testimonials
My son has had the opportunity to do volunteer work at a local museum, retail store and a Elementary Schools and also paid work at a local pizza restaurant, all of which is helping him with skills he can use after he leaves the program. We love the flexibility of the program, my son gets lots of individual attention as he learns some important life skills. Many young adults like my son fall through the cracks after high school, as they generally don't attend college, and don't have the skills to get a good paying job. So we are thrilled that our son has this opportunity and hope that the SOAR Program will continue to welcome new young adults. -Parent
Lindsay Wildlife Experience highly values our relationship with Clayton Valley Central High School. Connecting people with wildlife to inspire responsibility for the world we share is our mission, and having your students help with landscaping needs is an important contribution. We try to impart skills to all of our volunteers that can be applied in their everyday lives. For example, the students learned some gardening and landscaping needs, i.e., worked on mulching in particular, and we explained the benefits:
- Controls weeds
- Retains moisture
- Prevents soil erosion
- Maintains soil nutrients
- Helps control pests
We are grateful for your partnership and hope it continues in the future.
