NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY

The National Honor Society (NHS) is the nation's premier organization established to recognize outstanding high school students. More than just an honor roll, NHS serves to recognize those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, leadership, service, and character. These characteristics have been associated with membership in the organization since its beginning in 1921.

Today, it is estimated that more than one million students participate in NHS activities. NHS chapters are found in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, many U.S. territories, and Canada. Chapter membership not only recognizes students for their accomplishments, but challenges them to develop further through active involvement in school activities and community service.

CVCHS's NHS Chapter typically accepts applications in August.

2022/23 NHS applications will be available in the Student Services Office on August 19th.

Qualifications for NHS:

  • Submit a fully completed application by the established deadline
  • Maintain at least a 3.5 unweighted GPA
  • Demonstrate scholarship, leadership, service and character both on and off campus
  • Have earned at least 30 hours of community service at the time of application
  • Write a short essay
  • Pay $15 dues

Accepted members are celebrated at our annual NHS Induction Ceremony in October.

California Scholarship federation

Founded in 1921, the California Scholarship Federation (CSF) is the oldest scholastic, scholarship institution in California.  CSF emphasizes high standards of scholarship, and community service for California high school students.  As a member, students are also given the opportunity to earn a CSF Gold Seal on their diplomas by becoming a CSF Seal Bearer, which is achieved by qualifying four or more semesters in the last three years of high school.
